About Us
Chelmsford Community Gospel Choir was started in June 2008 by a group of black youths who loved to sing and wanted to learn more about the gospel music style and their heritage. That early group created a warm, inclusive and therapeutic environment, enabling its members to develop and contribute and this captured the interest of others in the community. Janet Hammond of Mid Essex PCT saw how the choir supported mental health, and helped to secure funding from the NHS Mid Essex “Investing in Health” Grant and Essex County Council.
We are now an independent, community-based, membership organisation managed by an elected committee. The choir is funded by members’ contributions, grants and bookings.
With the guidance of our Principal Music Director CeCelia Wickham Anderson and the enthusiasm of our members, we are going from strength to strength. In 2018 the choir members, both old and new, celebrated our 10th birthday with an especially memorable and successful concert.
